Song cycle: a work in progress

I've been fortunate enough to spend the last 2 weeks at the Bluestone Church Art Space working on a new body of work- using a vocal loop and turning myself into a "One Woman Choir" I have slowly been creating a choral "song cycle" that explores the themes and cycles of of death/life rest/work fear/love.

Inspired by vocal artists such as Imogen Heap and Jacob Collier, and composers Eric Whitacre and James MacMillan, this project is quite different to the normal indie-pop music I make- a little more experimental and improvisational, and rooted in my deep love of choral music, harmony, modal music and improvised singing.

On Sunday June 4th at 4.30pm I will be opening up the doors of the Bluestone Church Arts Space for friends, family and anyone else who is interested to come have a listen to what I have been working on. This is very much a WORK IN PROGRESS event - some of these songs are fully formed, and others are no more than a few ideas that I'm still trying to piece together.

I'll be having a brief chat about the project, then presenting the songs as they currently are- afterwards, I'm happy to answer any questions about the song, the process, my residency experience - or anything else you may want to know! The whole thing should be wrapped up by 5.30pm.

This event is free, and no prior ticket booking is necessary. It's very unlike my normal gigs and quite low-key - of course I'd love to see some people there, but also, it's no big stress if it's just me and one or two other people!

When you arrive, please wait at the back door of the Church (near the carpark). I'll open up the door at 4.30 to let people in!

This project is supported by Maribyrnong City Council as part of the Bluestone Church Arts Space Artist in Residence Program.

Hope to see you there!
